Trump's former lawyer leaves her post in the wake of appeals court rules against her.
Alina Habba has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a judicial decision that questioned her legal standing to serve.
Attorney General's Statement
The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, announced her stepping down on Monday. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it impossible for her to lead the department effectively.

Legal Background
The departure was triggered by a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This ruling is expected to impact numerous legal proceedings in New Jersey.
The court ruled that a temporary posting that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate breached the statute on vacant positions.
Ongoing Legal Battle
The Attorney General added that she will stay on at the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. Habba plans to pursue additional appeals of the ruling, in the hope of achieving a overturned decision.
On a social media platform, Bondi wrote that the court "should not be able to override the President's choice of lawyers responsible for carrying out the primary duty of the administration of prosecuting crime."

She praised her tenure and said that under her leadership, the Newark saw a significant drop in crime. She also stated that the city of Camden recorded its initial homicide-free summer since 1974 with no murders.
