Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked National Guard Members to White House

President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.

He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Attendees gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Policy Revisions

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The tragedy caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.

Legacy of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
