Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
