A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
